Psalm 120 Remixed

I re-wrote Psalm 120 originally for a School of the Americas worship service at Union Theological Seminary. I find it still to be relevant, especially during this election season.

Psalm 120

In anger and despair I cry out to God,
that the Almighty might answer me,

Deliver me, O Liberator,
from political lies,
from imperial violence.

Those lies don’t trick you, Holy One.

Those acts of violence do not overwhelm you, O God. You stand firm with the oppressed.

Woe is me, that I am silenced in my own country,
that I must live in the shadows.

Too long have I lived in a country
among officials who hate peace.

I am for peace;
but when I speak,
they are for war.
