Churches in Colombia and the U.S. Call for Peace

Y el tuyo?On April 5-7, 2014 churches across Colombia and the United States commemorated the 9th Annual Days of Prayer and Action for Colombia. In Colombia our partners in the IPC, as well as in other denominations, prayed for peace during their worship services. Churches also carried out activities to call for a peaceful resolution to Colombia's internal conflict.

In the United States, 45 religious leaders, including the PC(USA)'s Stated Clerk Rev. Gradye Parsons and Executive Director of the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship Rick Ufford-Chase sent a letter to President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry calling on them to re-direct U.S. assistance to Colombia toward peacebuilding and away from military aid.

Local congregations also remembered our Colombian sisters and brothers--and especially their call for peace--in prayer. Finally, people across the country reached out to their elected officials in Washington calling for U.S. support for peace in Colombia.
