Become a Regional Organizer
You know there's a better way. You want to make a difference. You know that we can't follow Jesus just by talking about it. You want to do something, and you want to work with others who feel the same way.
If that sounds like you, then you're the kind of person we're looking for.
PPF Regional Organizers are volunteers who act as liaisons between PPF's national leadership and its members. Organizers are intentional about fostering community and connection between other peacemakers in their community. Organizers stay up-to-date with PPF activities, and facilitate communication about those activities and help others participate. Organizers help PPF national leadership know what's happening "on the ground" in different regions.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in phone call meetings twice per year with Executive Director, Coordinators and the rest of the regional organizers.
- Organize "fellowship gatherings" of some kind for interested people in the region, at least one every 6 months, such as to gather for food, Bible study, conversation, film, poetry slam, etc.
- Rally the regional "clusters" for at least one event every 6 months, such as: Ghost Ranch Week of Peace, SOA/WHINSEC, Southwest Weekend of Witness, CPWI, Ecumenical Advocacy Days, GA, other PPF conferences, and/or regional events (speakers, rallies, protests, vigils, etc).
- Support and expand other PPF projects, like the counter-recruitment project, Colombia accompaniment, etc.
- Maintain a database of people in the area who are interested and/or involved, and be the point person for contacts regarding PPF.
- Be proactive about communication: know what's going on with PPF and relay that information to your cluster/community. Likewise, keep PPF informed of what's happening in your local cluster, via Coordinators.
- Don't work alone! Identify at least one other person within your cluster who can take over for you (you know, while you're in jail or something) and actively mentor them and share power. This is especially critical for clusters which are centered in universities or seminaries, where turnover is regular and frequent.
- Intentionally be in relationship with other local peace organizations, and organize PPF presence at other local peace events.
This is a way for you to live out the commitments you've made to witnessing to the nonviolent way of Jesus. There may be other ways we choose to covenant as individuals and with each other as we do this work. Let us know what feeds you and what you're hungry for.
Interested? Send an email to Maggie or Matt. You can also check out the PPF Network area of this website, which will show you a lot of what people like you are up to in this work. We look forward to meeting you!
