Committee approves new social creed

SAN JOSE, June 24, 2008 — One hundred years after “A Social Creed of the Churches” joined Christians together to work to ease the human costs of industrialization, General Assembly’s Social Justice Issues Committee passed a new social creed Tuesday to “meet the challenges of sustainability and globalization.”

SAN JOSE, June 23, 2008 — The General Assembly Peacemaking and International Issues Committee quickly and unanimously voted on its first two overtures, then approved two others before settling into thorough and soul-searching hearings and discussion for hours on overtures related to the war in Iraq.
